Have you adopted a rabbit, hamster, or other small pet from a shelter?

I adopted two rabbits and a hamster from the county animal shelter. While I was there, I saw guinea pigs, gerbils, parakeets, turtles, iguanas, and just about any small pet you could buy at a pet store! How many of you have adopted one of these Small Pets from a shelter?

I adopted a pair of spayed rabbits from the local shelter.. I had been going in to visit with the rabbits there a couple times a week and they told me if I really liked them I’d probably better adopt them as they wouldn’t be there next week.. They had already been there 8 months and they were getting even more rabbits it.. So, they came home with me..
I raised show rabbits in the past, and even so I’d still recommend adopting a rabbit from a shelter that neuters instead. Neutered pet rabbits are much better pets and adopting them from the shelter already done is a lot easier and cheaper then buying a rabbit and paying a vet to have it done.
If they ever got in an easier to care for reptile at our local shelter I’d adopt it, but, so far all they’ve had the last several months are iguanas and red eared sliders..

I once took a rat from a shelter. I volunteered there so they just gave it to me because of lack of interest from anyone else. I had him for almost 2 years.

I adopted a rat from a local rescue before. I plan to continue to adopt my rats in the future. My newest male is from a pet store, though. I checked Petfinder first and no rats were listed for adoption.

We adopted a gerbil for the children, they lost interest so I took over caring for little "Hammy" and I cried when she died
    two years later.
