Does putting used car oil on your dog’s coat make its fur grow?

Okay, I have a dog that for some reason is losing the fur on his back and it has gotten a lot worse. My neighbor tried to help me with that problem, what he did was he rubbed car oil to the dogs back and said it will help my dogs bald spot grow back. I have not seen a difference and I’m worried that it could affect the dogs health.

putting car oil on your dog will not make the fur grow.. this is an old farmer’s tale for curing dogs of skin ailments.. it does NOT work.. and it can affect your dog’s health

It will more likely cause more irritations and make the problems worse.. if it doesnt make your dog sick or kill it.

Wash the dog thoughoughly.. Dawn dish soap (the original green kind) will help remove the oil, but is safe to use on animals (its what they use to clean up wildlife during oil spills!).

Make an appt at the vet to find out why your dog is loosing fur.

No. Oil is TOXIC which means that it can and will KILL your dog. Take the poor thing to a vet.

ETA: That part about him putting it on your dog apparently went over my head. Forget b***hslapping your neighbor, rub motor oil over his delicate spots and see how badly he squirms. As Nekkid Dog said, wash him immediately with the Original Dawn dish detergent and get him to the vet.

Get the dog to the vet and determine the cause of the hair loss.

Using motor oil can kill your dog and is considered animal abuse.

Ya know, it might work temporarily. It would be hard to know for certain, because the dog will DIE when it licks the oil from its coat!

No, it won’t, and it is toxic, there’s tons of chemicals in the oil nowadays. Motor oil is rumored to be a good home treatment for mange, but not only does it NOT work, it’s potentially very dangerous. Take your dog into the vet, it likely has mange or another skin condition, the treatment will vary depending on what, exactly, the problem is.

absolutely not! what it will do is poison your dog! give your dog a good bath with Dawn dish soap to break that poison up and get it off! you may have to soap him/her up twice. Then find out what caused a bald spot in the first place. and then treat properly.

you cannot put something made for a car on your dog! did you call your vet before letting your neigbor do this? if not you should take he or she their now, your vet is a doctor and can help diagnose and treat your dogs problem, it might be allergies or something else.

Toxic! Get the dog to a shampoo clinic and then start supplementing with UDOS Oil…this is very good for both humans and animals! Try it and you will be surprised in about a month.

Google "Pet Essentials" and UDOS oil..
