What can I do to keep my dog cool during the summer?

My poor dog seems to be overheating lately, (it’s not uncommon, it’s about 100 degrees constantly) and I don’t know a way I can keep her cool.

I tried putting a fan on her, but she didn’t like it, it scared her.
She has plently of water to drink, but still seems to get too hot!

Is there a way I can keep my dog from getting too hot without getting her a cut? (She is a papillon, it wouldn’t make much sense)

You could try a cool mat, swamp coat, or a cool collar.

I live in the dessert so I know what you are going through!!! Without purchasing anything I would recommend that after she is outside take a cool wash cloth on her belly and paws and feed her ice cubes (I make low sodium chicken broth ice cubes)…

First off, a long haired breed isn’t the best choice.

Try getting her wet and placing her somewhere near a breeze.

Not sure if your dog likes this, but ours likes to play in the hose, and eat popcycles (we share).

Ice cubes in the water, or simply just to play with.

if you have air conditioning then bring her in the house with you, you could also try giving them ice cubes to eat, my dog loves them in the hot weather. also the pads on the dogs feet control their body temperature so if you put cold water on the bottom of her feet it should cool her down.

Freeze Kongs, meat and chicken broth, basically anything she likes, it will serve as an lovely ice lolly. Also try a kiddie swimming pool, keeping her in the shade, playing water fights, things like that. Also put ice cubes in her water.

Keep her paws/ snout and ears cool. When my dogs are outside playing, I bring them over to the hose and wet their mouths [careful not to put water up their nose!], ear tips, paws, and get them some to drink and then let them play some more. We also put an iceblock outside when it’s really hot, or get them some ice to chew when they come in.We have similar temperatures here [I'm in Texas], and I know how you feel!

keep her inside. LOTS OF FANS! NOt directly on her, also put water on her coat, they like that. You can also buy water holding Jackets from a pet store. Its wet but keeps the water in and cool you put it on your dog.

You can wet her down daily, just spray her with water.
you can lay a wet towel on the ground for her, and she’ll lay on it , and it’ll keep her cool.
place her in a room with AC, and let her rest. esp. during the hottest times of the day.
you can put a little baby pool out for her, if she likes to swim or take a dip.
spray her with a mister spray.

place ice cubes in her water bowl, if that helps.
ALWAYS have water available to her.

My puppy loves playing with ice cubes, or you can buy toys that go in the freezer (there is one called Chilly Bone), usually for teething, but I think it help cool them down too. Don’t let them get too hot when playing, you sound like you are doing a lot to help keep her cool. Dogs will pant to cool off, just keep her inside out of the heat.

Try taking a cold wet cloth and placing it on her forehead and under her chin. My vet told me this helps to cool them down when overheating.
