In Pennsylvania, Do you need a exotic pet license to own a Capuchin Monkey as a pet?

I want to get a Capuchin Monkey as a pet. They look like a cool pet. But I don’t know if I need a Exotic Pet License.

I live in Pennsylvania, too. I wanted to get a Common Marmoset Monkey, but after doing my homework and checking with the laws and regulations I found out that it is illegal to keep ANY primate without an exotic license. The thing is, Pennsylvania is not giving out license for primates because of the well being of the human. I’m sorry, but you can’t own a primate unless you do this illegally and take the chance of getting your primate taken away from you and authenticated. Not to mention getting a hefty fine. I don’t advise you to do this illegally, for the primates safety.

It is not a good idea to own an exotic pet without any experience. Most often exotic pets are found abused, abandoned, and in wild life refuges. This is because after someone owns the animal, they realize that the animal is to much to take care of. Also owning an exotic animal takes a lot of your time caring for it properly, making sure it is healthy. You will have to pay a lot of money in vet bills if the animal gets sick, and when it needs vaccinations. Exotic animals are very unpredictable. Although they may be cute and cuddly at one moment, the next moment their true wild nature can come out. Before you make a decision if you are getting a monkey, research everything about, and make sure you know what to feed it and the proper habitat it should be in.

You don’t get ANY pet because it’s cool. That’s so immature as to be unbelievable. It is disrespectful to have any animal that has to wear a diaper all its life to live in YOUR home.

It is illegal in most states for anyone to have a monkey for a house pet.
